Someone, somewhere, has told you that fruit is bad.
Maybe it was the carnivore influencer. Maybe it was the strict ketogenic advocate. Maybe it was the person at the gym who has spent six months eating nothing but meat and eggs and wants everyone to know about it. The reasoning varies slightly by cult but the central claim is consistent: fruit contains fructose, fructose is sugar, sugar is bad, therefore fruit is bad, therefore do not eat fruit ever.
If you have been listening to this advice, stop. It is wrong. Not nuanced wrong. Not partially right in specific contexts wrong. Fructose Is Sugar. But Not.
The argument against fruit usually begins and ends with fructose. Fructose is a sugar. Fruit contains fructose. Sugar causes insulin spikes, fat storage, metabolic dysfunction, and everything else that makes it the dietary villain of the current era. Therefore fruit causes those things. Therefore avoid fruit.
This argument is metabolically illiterate and here is why.
The fructose in a can of high fructose corn syrup and the fructose in a whole kiwifruit are the same molecule. The context in which that molecule arrives in your body is entirely different, and context is everything in metabolic biology.
